Open the app and tap the scan button (the large circle). Point your camera at a document — solidLens will automatically detect the edges and capture when the document is steady. You can also tap manually to capture at any time.

No account required. solidLens works fully offline and on-device. There are no mandatory subscriptions to use the core scanning features.

solidLens requires iOS 18.6 or later.

Quick Scan captures and saves immediately using your default format and quick-action settings — no review step. "Scan" captures the same way but opens a review screen first, where you can check the auto-detected document type, OCR text, and title before saving.

After capturing the first page, tap the thumbnail that appears. You can keep scanning additional pages which will be grouped into a single multi-page document. Tap "Done" when finished.

Make sure the document is on a contrasting background (e.g. white paper on a dark surface). Ensure the document is flat and well-lit. If auto-capture still doesn't trigger, you can always tap the shutter manually.

Yes. After scanning, you can crop, rotate, and adjust the perspective correction. Tap any page thumbnail to edit it before exporting.

Yes. Every scan is automatically classified as a Document, Whiteboard, Receipt, Business Card, or Recipe, using on-device image analysis plus the recognized OCR text. You can browse and filter your Explorer by these types at any time.

solidLens extracts the name, company, phone numbers, emails, and website from the card and offers to prefill Apple's own "New Contact" screen. Nothing is added to your Contacts unless you review and tap Save yourself — solidLens never requests Contacts permission.

When a scan is classified as a Receipt, solidLens attempts to parse the vendor name, total, and date from the OCR text and attaches them to the document's details.

Each scan is saved as either a single-file PDF, or as "Images + Markdown" — individual PNG pages plus a Markdown index file. You can set your default in Settings → Default Format, or choose per-scan on review. From the export sheet, scans can also be shared, printed, sent to Apple Notes, or saved to Files.

Anywhere iOS allows: Files app, AirDrop, Mail, Messages, Notes, and any other app that accepts files on your device. The standard iOS share sheet is fully supported, and you can select multiple scans in the Explorer to share or export them together.

Yes, two ways: turn on iCloud Sync in Settings so your whole library syncs across your devices via iCloud Drive, or use the "Save to Files" export option and choose any iCloud Drive folder as a one-off destination. You can mark individual scans as local-only to exclude them from sync regardless of the global setting.

Yes. In Settings → Document Toolbar, you can reorder, show, or hide actions (Share, Obsidian, Apple Notes, Save to Files, OCR Text, Print), and pick which one fires from a left-swipe on a scan in the Explorer.

Yes. Deleted scans go to Settings → Advanced → Recently Deleted, where they're recoverable for 30 days before being permanently purged. You can also disable this trash entirely if you'd rather deletions be immediate.

In Settings → Apple Notes, choose whether the exported note attaches the PDF, includes the OCR text as the note body, and whether that text is turned into a checklist (one checkbox per line) instead of plain paragraphs.

In Settings → Obsidian, tap "Add Vault Folder…" and pick your vault (stored in iCloud Drive or local storage) — solidLens needs that one-time folder permission to write into it. You can add more than one vault and choose which to export to.

solidLens works with vaults stored in iCloud Drive or on-device local storage. Sync services like Obsidian Sync will pick up files placed in your vault folder automatically.

Yes. Every export to Obsidian writes a Markdown note with the scan's OCR text and links to its images (PDF or PNG pages), placed in the vault — optionally organized into subfolders by document type. Turn on "Auto-export on scan" in Settings → Obsidian to have every new scan sent to your first vault automatically, with no extra taps.

solidLens exports images into a folder named after the document (e.g. "Invoice attachments") beside its note. You can reference any of them from other notes using Obsidian's standard ![[filename]] syntax.

Yes. In the Explorer, tap Select, choose your scans, then Export → Export to Obsidian to batch-export them all to a vault in one go.

First, force-quit and reopen the app. If the problem persists, try restarting your device. If you're still experiencing crashes, please contact us with your iOS version and device model so we can investigate.

Go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera, and ensure solidLens is toggled on. Without camera access, scanning is unavailable.

Ensure your camera lens is clean, the document is flat, and lighting is even. Avoid scanning in very low light. Keep the phone steady and let the auto-focus lock before capturing.
